The Villa Newsletter: Sports Day, Supertatoes, The Aquarium & Making Kites.

What a week! It was wonderful to see so many families on Tuesday afternoon for our Sports Day. The children loved showing off their throwing, catching and cricket skills to their parents and the true embodiment of the Villa’s kindness shone in the running race. I was so proud to see children cheer on their friends and the sportsmanship that was exhibited made me smile…although I can’t say quite the same for you competitive parents!

As we move towards the end of the academic year I am now reflecting on what each child has achieved this year and their huge growth, not only academically but in the use of their tools to support and aid self-regulation, resilience, risk taking and team work. Once again, I am blown away by what can be achieved in a year. It is going to be a busy next few weeks, so do rest this weekend if you are able as the children are certainly starting to feel the pace!

Reception

Reception deserve a good rest this weekend after the super action-packed week

we’ve had! We finished making our own 3D Supertatoes alongside starting to look

at real life super heroes - the emergency services! We learnt all about the 5 main

services you can call for help as well as the important number that you need to dial and what to say.

Sports Day was full of excitement and we were so proud to see the children using all of their character tools throughout to take a risk, problem solve and work together as a team. The weather shone at Forest School which gave us a

wonderful afternoon of climbing and digging, swinging and making.

The children are definitely showing how much they’ve grown this year and are getting super ready for Year One! Well done team!

Year One

What a wonderful week. We were off to a great start with our trip to the Aquarium. We had the best day learning all about different marine creatures and picnicking in Jubilee Gardens. It was a wonderful consolidation of our topic as not only did we learn lots about the creatures, there were also important exhibits all about protecting the oceans.

Then on Tuesday, it was Sports Day and the children did brilliantly following the carousel of activities. I thought all the children were excellent sportspeople - there was cheering all round and I felt very proud of them all.

In Maths this week, we looked at solving missing number problems and in Topic, we wrote wonderful recounts of our trip and learned all about the different skeletal systems of sea creatures. In Computing, we played a really fun typing game to help us speed up and get us used to using both hands to move across the keyboard.

Year Two

We have worked tirelessly this week pulling together our show for the

performance next Wednesday. We have continued our work on interpreting and

representing data using pictograms where the symbol has a value greater than

one. In Topic, we made kites and took them to Warwick Gardens to fly,

observing the effects of air resistance.

We have been learning about the customs in Buddhism and reflecting on what is important in our own lives. Lots of children have been out visiting their new schools this week.

I can’t wait to hear more about their settling in days!
